2018 Cookbook Challenge: December Wrap Up

As December comes to a close, it’s time to wrap up the 2018 Cookbook Challenge with the final update post. It’s been a fun year re-familiarizing myself with my cookbooks! I learned I have a handful of go-to cookbooks and lots I never open, so I’ll be doing a purge sometime soon.

December brought with it lots of family time, including my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary.

My awesome grandparents cutting their anniversary cake.

They’re two of my favorite people, so I wanted to do something special for their party. I ended up making some cookies for the event using the recipe from The American Woman’s Cook Book. This book is pretty old and was well loved before it came to me. It belonged to my step grandmother who passed away a while back. She was an amazing cook and baker. Her biscuits and gravy were the best I’ve ever had.

The recipe called for shortening, but I used butter. It called for milk, and I used almond milk instead. Otherwise I stuck to the cookie recipe.

I used my go-to royal icing recipe, but substituted maple syrup for the light corn syrup required because I didn’t have any. They were really tasty!

60 years for the Darlings

That’s a wrap! Thanks for following along this year. <3
