7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 4)

So…do you like free music? Free LEGAL music?

Then you’ll definitely want to check out Freegal Music! It is a service through your local library that allows you to download 3 free songs per week, as long as you have a valid library card. Mark’s friend at work told us about it, and we’ve both been using it ever since. They also have apps for iPhone and Android.

It sounds too good to be true (I’m easy to impress), so I keep waiting for some kind of catch, but so far I haven’t had any problems. They don’t have every song, and I’m guessing that’s because some music labels don’t participate.

Tip: Don’t go to freegal[dot]com. Trust me, I learned the hard way. It contains gross/inappropriate content. Instead, type “Freegal Music [your city library]” into Google or find the link on your library’s website. Mine was in the downloads section.

Do you think cookies can be inappropriate? I’ve been making lots of cookies for bachelorette parties these days, and upon hearing what kind of cookies I’m making, a few friends have raised their eyebrows at me. What do you think?

Can I take a minute to rant about how irritated I get when people are late for appointments, meetings, or anything really? Being on time is must for me. My Mom did a great job of brainwashing (I mean training) me to believe two things.

  1. You aren’t really on time unless you are at least a few minutes early.
  2. If you arrive late, you send a message to the person waiting for you that you don’t respect him or her.

On rare occasions, I acknowledge there are “good” excuses for being late. But being late all.the.time is just thoughtless. I’ve been stressed about this lately because I’ve been interacting with a few groups of people that never seem to make it anywhere on time. Finally, I realized, I can’t make these people respect my time, but I can change my attitude about their tardiness.

I can choose not to get upset. I can choose to be more charitable. I can choose to be WAYYYYYY more patient. I’d appreciate any prayers or relevant Bible passages you can offer as encouragement as I work on this.

Rasberries are one of my favorite fruits. Mark (my husband) surprised me by picking some up the other day on his way home from work, and I’ve been enjoying them all week. One thing that kind of freaks me out about rasberries though…I’m always nervous there will be a little bug hiding inside the hole. Washing them thoroughly and carefully is a must, to avoid a vicious bug attack, obviously.

Just finished reading Heaven is For Real, and I definitely recommend reading it! It was awesome to see what Heaven might be like from the perspective of a four year old. The story reminded me of the passage from Matthew below, and also how children are so loving and accepting of everyone. They see the world through a lens I sometimes wish I could borrow to adjust my perspective.

“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:3

I know I mentioned this last time, but I really want to get the word out, so…

Shining Light, is hosting its first annual golf outing. If you are in the Chicago area and enjoy golf, we’d really appreciate your support!!

Even though it is 90 degrees out today, I’ve got my mind on autumn. Pumpkin cookies, pumpkin lattes, boots, sweaters, pretty leaves, even football! I blame Pinterest for having so many cute fall-focused crafts and recipes. I’m not wishing time away; I’d love the warm weather to last. But I sure am looking forward to my favorite season of the year.

What are your favorite autumn activities?
