Life lately

We attended a retreat this weekend at St. Meinrad, a Benedictine Monastery in southern Indiana. The event was focused on young adults in the Church. It was very interesting to see what programs other parishes have done and how that compares to my parish. It was a nice reminder of how amazing our parish is in terms of programs they have for young adults. If you’d like to get involved, let me know!

One of my favorite parts was praying with the monks. Their singing/chanting is so peaceful.

A couple weeks ago, we went on a city scavenger hunt with my sis and bro-in-law. My Mom gave the scavenger hunt as a gift to my husband when we first moved here as a way to help him get acquainted with the community.

It was a fun way to learn a lot about our city and explore its history. I think we’ll both feel a little more comfortable navigating downtown as a result.

We’ve been doing various home improvement projects. I (with the help of my stepdad and an electrician) swapped out a couple light fixtures, one pictured below, and Mark has been diligently sealing the cracks in our driveway prior to the weather turning cold.

I also refinished a dresser for our future nursery. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but the dresser is solid wood with an 80’s style orange wood stain. I painted it navy to match the decals in the nursery and swapped out the drawer pulls with something more modern.

It is in the living room now, but will move up to the nursery once we get to the point of furnishing and decorating it more.

My youngest sister just turned 13 years old. I can hardly handle it. We had a sister sleepover this past month and it was so fun relaxing and visiting together. Whenever I spend time with any of my sisters, I’m so grateful. They are truly the best gifts my parents and bro-in-law (for my SIL) have ever given me. <3

Arwen is doing really well off leash in our yard when she’s with Mark. She runs to the neighbors’ houses every now and then, but overall is listening very well. We are getting a fence installed in early November though, which we’re hoping will be great for Arwen and our future children.

We traveled to the Chicago area for a cousin’s bridal shower and loved all the quality time with family.
