Waiting

In elementary school, we can’t wait to be in junior high. In junior high, we can’t wait to be in high school. In high school, we can’t wait to be in college. In college, we can’t wait to graduate so we can enter the work force and get on with our lives – some of us anyway. 😉

The waiting process seems to be endless.

I just finished a book titled The Difference Maker. It was a good read overall, but there were a couple key points that resonated with my current life challenges. The first – stop waiting and live in the moment. You can spend your whole life waiting for  things to finish or start, only to find that you are at the end of your journey and you haven’t taken the time to enjoy it.

The second – it is never too late to choose a different path. You have never travelled so far down one road that you can’t turn around and pick another. You only lose your ability to choose a new path when you die. I think that is one of the issues that was holding me back from selecting a focus for grad school. Even the idea being back in “waiting” mode – waiting to graduate with a new degree – made me cringe.

I feel reassured today knowing that I can choose a new path, and also choose not to feel like I’m “waiting” for something to start again. I can go back to school and continue to feel like I’m moving forward. This is my life. Every second that passes is another moment I can cherish, not disregard as if it is simply a means to an end.
