On Sunday night, I was feeling a little blah, so I decided to bake. It always brightens my mood! I made my standard sugar cookie with royal icing and used the cowboy boot cookie cutter Mark brought me back from his business trip to Texas. They turned out ok, but by the time I was done applying the brown icing, I was bored, so the yellow detail is all over the place. I found some cute pics online of cowboy boot cookies I’ll probably use for inspiration next time.
Part of last week and early this week, I attended Techweek Conference in Chicago for work. It was kind of a pain to get downtown on the train each day (and how do I always manage to sit by someone with a cold??), but the event itself was awesome. It has a startup vibe, which I really like. Also, the tchotchke/give-a-way item I picked out was a BIG hit. It is a rubber case you put your iPhone in, and it amplifies the sound like crazy.
While at Techweek, I learned about some pretty cool new apps. The first is ChoreMonster. If I had kids, I’d be all over this! It is an iPad app and website that lets parents set point values for chores and rewards. It makes doing chores a game, while sneakily teaching kids about the value of hard work and how to budget what they earn. The second one is Half Team, a collaborative drawing game. Both are worth checking out if you have an iPad or iPhone, though I don’t think Half Team is officially available yet.
I’m really digging Jason Aldean’s song, “Fly Over States.” Perhaps it is because he mentions my home state of Indiana. What songs are you playing on repeat these days?
At 3:30 a.m. five years ago today, I was standing in line at an AT&T store with a group of my coworkers to purchase a new device I knew little about. This device, a new type of phone, promised to enhance my life both professionally and personally. I was skeptical and hesitant to part with my old school Samsung flip phone.
Fast forward to today, and I don’t know how I’d get by without it. Happy 5th birthday, iPhone!
My parents and two of my younger sisters are coming to visit us this weekend from Indianapolis!! I’m so excited because the last time I saw them, two weeks ago, we didn’t get to spend much time together. Maybe 5 hours total? I was in town for a very brief visit for my 10 year H.S. reunion. It was almost harder seeing them for such a short amount of time than not seeing them at all.
We haven’t had rain in weeks in the Chicago area. I was relieved when I heard it was going to rain today. Our grass is getting brown and crunchy. This afternoon, the thunderstorms rolled in. Check out this crazy storm picture my husband captured from his office. I’ll never understand how someone can view the beauty and order apparent in an image like this, and not see God’s hand in it.
