Today in Church a couple renewed their wedding vows after 70 years of marriage. As they held hands and looked into each other’s eyes to exchange vows, love radiated from their joyful, weathered faces. I imagined the adventures, sacrifice, and ordinary days they must’ve had in 70 years. Their descendants seated in the pews behind them beamed with pride.
After the ceremony, the couple received a well-deserved standing ovation from the congregation. Of course my eyes started welling up because LOVE.
The whole encounter brought to mind a statement from a homily our priest gave a while back.
He said, “If you know love, you know God.”
These words really touched my heart. Whenever I feel like maybe my prayers are disappearing into the unknown or the Lord is far away, I think of the abundant love in my life. I know the love I’m experiencing in my family and with friends is a tiny glimpse of a Father who loves me more than I can comprehend.
“His love never fails.”
– Corinthians 13:8
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to know the Lord, think of the love you’ve received and given, and consider opening the door to an even greater love. <3
