This week’s 7QT features my husband’s 30th birthday party. It was a poker theme.
We fit nearly 50 people in our house!
Most of the guys were in the basement for the poker tournament and the ladies were upstairs chatting. The only time it ever felt really crowded to me was when everyone piled into the basement to sing Mark happy birthday. He blew out one candle on a chocolate and peanut butter Reese’s cupcake. Reese’s are his favorite candy, so I was super excited to make those cupcakes for his birthday.
Here is my handsome guy, mid-game. Some of his friends made this cool poker table and kindly brought it over for the party.
Praying for a win?
I spent a good portion of the evening calling my husband middle-aged. Just returning the favor, since he did the same to me on my 30th a few months ago. But I hope we’re both blessed to live until we’re much older than 60!
Here’s a shot of my oldest younger sister and I. Her and my brother-in-law drove in from Indiana to celebrate with us, and they also brought two of my littlest sisters. I seriously couldn’t have hosted this party without all of their help!
This is a head of lettuce with caprese skewers. Ever since I saw the caterers do this for an event we hosted at work, I’ve done it for every party we’ve hosted. People are always so impressed by it, and it is super easy!
A big thank you to everyone who came to celebrate Mark! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to show my husband how special he is to me and to so many other people. He deserves a party everyday, but based on how much we slept on Sunday after everyone left, I don’t think either of us could handle that. He and I were both feeling every bit of that 30 years the next day.
