Mark was on a work trip for most of this week, his first in a while, and it really made me realize how much I adore having him around. I missed him like crazy and barely slept a wink. Seriously, if you saw me Tuesday-Thursday morning, I’d be surprised if you didn’t notice I probably looked terrible and was on the verge of tears. It is amazing how a lack of sleep turns me into an emotional wreck; God help us when we have a baby one day!
Last night was the first night he was back home, and this morning I woke up in a puddle of my own drool. Gross, yes, but it illustrates how relaxed I was. I don’t know how you military wives cope with your husbands being away for long periods of time. You are STRONG women, that’s for sure!!
Speaking of my sweet husband, he surprised me with a fabulous gift for no reason at all. A new food processor!!
I had a mini one that held about two cups, but it broke over a year ago. I was going to ask for one for Christmas, but I’m SUPER excited to have it now. Also, it is much bigger and holds up to eight cups.
Tonight, I’m going to test it by making this cauliflower rice. I’ve been eyeing this recipe ever since we decided to eat less carbs earlier this year, so I’ll let you know how it turns out.
I read a great post about building relationships over at the Technori blog today. The gist of it is that you should treat every encounter and relationship as meaningful.
It reminded me a lot of Keith Ferrazi’s “Who’s Got Your Back” approach. I saw him speak at The Art of Marketing conference in Chicago earlier this year, during which he challenged all audience members to make a list of the five people most important to your professional and personal growth and then to go home and make an action plan about how you intend to strengthen each of those relationships. I highly recommend it.
Who would be on your top 5 list?
This weekend I get to celebrate my girlfriend Lindsay’s last few months as a single woman at her bachelorette party. Several of my girlfriends from high school will be there, and I can’t wait to see all of them! I’m sure pictures will appear in next week’s post.

One of my baby sisters (the 13 year old) is on her 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. this week. I can’t believe she is in 8th grade, and I can’t believe it has been so long since I was in 8th grade myself. It seems like only yesterday I was there with my 8th grade class, focusing more on socializing with my friends than on taking in the historic sights.
Please say a prayer for her safety while on her trip. I’m sure the Washington, D.C. area is probably full of protestors and crazy people so close to the election.

I’m working with a great nonprofit that helps people in the West Chicago community overcome crisis situations (like unplanned pregnancy, loss of a job, divorce, etc.) and become self-sufficient by providing support groups, job training, and whatever else is necessary for their success.
For many of the clients, coming up with the gas money to drive to and from the facility is a challenge. If you, or anyone you know, can donate gift cards to major gas stations in any increments, please complete the contact form on their website.
A dear member of our extended family is in need of prayers today. I can’t share the details, but I would be grateful to anyone who can take a few moments to say a prayer for this person.
