Since I skipped last week, I’ll start by telling you how much fun I had visiting my sisters (and brother, Phillip, as Madison so frequently corrected me) in Indianapolis. We had 4.5 uninterrupted days of togetherness. I can’t remember the last time that happened. We took Madison to “meet the teacher” night for kindergarten, went out for frozen yogurt, cooked together, practiced our braiding techniques, did our nails, spent time with our grandparents, and much more. I miss them already, but I’m thankful for the time we had.
Speaking of activities I did with my sisters, we tried this craft from Pinterest. I followed the directions to a T and it turned out terrible. We seriously didn’t even paint them. We did have fun playing with the dough, but after they were baked, they went straight to the trash can. Anyone who has done this craft before, tips are very welcome!

For my Catholic friends, Wednesday was a holy day of obligation, or opportunity as I like to call it. Mark and I attended the evening Mass. Our choir director sang “Ave Maria,” one of my favs.
I was really disappointed at how few people were there. I don’t mean this to be critical of others. I just mean the church felt empty and weird without everyone there. We only took up two sections of pews out of the 9ish available.
I wonder if there is an app that sends people a gentle reminder on holy days. There should be! I know it would help me and lots of other people remember.
My cookie baking is going to pick up significantly in the next couple months due to a few fall weddings. I’m really looking forward to it because I haven’t made cookies for any events the last few months due to my crazy busy schedule.

Mark and I have seriously considered homeschooling our (future) children. There are so many things being taught in schools that are counter to our faith, and we’d rather our kids have a firm foundation before being exposed to them. Obviously nothing has been decided yet; we have many years before that will be a concern.
That being said, I keep my eyes and ears open for news related to homeschooling because it interests me. This article came up in my news feed. I urge parents (and future parents) to read it. The most compelling question posed in the article to me was the one below.
“If the state appoints itself to guard against indoctrination by parents, who is to protect children from indoctrination by the state?”

The nonprofit I work with, Shining Light, is hosting its first annual golf outing. If you are in the Chicago area and enjoy golf, we’d really appreciate your support!
I decided to run my first half marathon in October. I’ve been training for the last month or so, and I’m really excited about it. Also, I’m pretty nervous. The past week, every time I run, I get shooting pains in my right knee. I know I should probably get it checked out, but for now, I’m hoping I’ve just aggravated it by running too much. I’d really appreciate your prayers for healing.

Aww it looks like you had so much fun with your family! 🙂 Our church was also extremely empty on Wednesday. I will pray for healing for your knee! That’s awesome that you’re doing a half marathon!
Thanks, Caitlin! I really appreciate your prayers. On my Saturday morning run, it was definitely a little better!
