Adoption Update #5

I look at my last post giving a quick update about where things stood with our adoption and I feel so naive. I thought living in the midst of a global pandemic was a chaotic time!

Fast forward a few weeks and we’re living in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by a corrupt police officer that has exploded into a nationwide outcry for an end to racism. As someone who is pro-life to the core, seeing much of the country united in the pursuit of respecting the dignity of every human person has given me hope. Racism is a grave sin we should all seek to eliminate from our hearts, homes, and communities just as we would any other sin. I hope you’ll join me in fasting and praying for peace, unity, and justice.

From an adoption perspective, I’ve been listening to the experiences of transracial adoptees who have been sharing a lot about what prospective adoptive parents can do to prepare to raise a child of another race or culture well.

There has also been a case of adoption dissolution blowing up the news. A popular YouTube channel documented their family’s international adoption journey. They relinquished their son and another family is in the process of adopting him. It breaks my heart for the child and raises some red flags about the lack of education in international adoption. If you want to hear more about this, I highly suggest checking out this video with members from all sides of the adoption triad (adoptees, adoptive parents, and birth mothers.)

One Year of Waiting

It’s officially been one year this month since we were home-study approved for adoption! As hard as it has been to wait, I can’t believe a year has gone by already. It’s almost laughable to say we’ve been waiting for one year now, since we’ve really been waiting for over 10 years to grow our family. šŸ˜‰

As part of passing the one year mark, we updated our home study by submitting a bunch of new paperwork and getting annual physicals, bloodwork, etc. Fun fun! But all for the greatest cause.

Instagram Video Series

Our new Instagram account has already helped us connect with some great people (and some scammers)! We did our first $25 Amazon gift card giveaway and started a new series of posts including videos of friends and family sharing what kind of parents they think we will be. My hope is these videos will provide more insight into the kind of people we are to help increase an expectant family’s/mother’s confidence in our ability to love and raise their child. So far we’ve shared videos from some friends, siblings, and some of our parents.

If you know us well and would like to submit a video that’s under 1 minute sharing your thoughts on why we’d be good parents, we’d be so grateful! <3

New Crib

In the last adoption update, I shared my struggle to find a crib we liked that was safe. I’m excited to report the daughter of one of Mark’s parent’s friends is giving us her crib! It’s one of the models I had my eye on to purchase and it meets all the top safety requirements and converts to a toddler bed, so I’m super excited!! I’ll be sure to show you once it’s here and all set up.

I think that pretty much covers the updates. As always, thank you for your prayers and for sharing our website and Instagram account to help us connect with an expectant family! <3
