TGIF!

For book club one month last year, we read Cinder by Marissa Mayer. It was decent for Young Adult fiction, so I decided to check out the rest of the series.

Summary of the series from Marissa Mayer’s website:

“The Lunar Chronicles are futuristic retellings of classic fairy tales. In CINDER, a teenage cyborg (half human, half machine) must deal with a wicked stepmother, start a rebellion against the evil Queen Levana, and decide how she feels about a handsome prince. As the series continues, Cinder forges alliances with Scarlet, a spaceship pilot who is determined to solve the mystery of a missing loved one — with the help of a magnetic street fighter named Wolf; Cress, a computer hacker who is imprisoned by Queen Levana; and Winter, a princess who’s in love with a commoner, and who discovers that Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress may hold the key to saving her kingdom — and the world.”

I thought the 1st and 2nd books were good, but the 3rd and 4th books were page turners. Especially the 4th, my favorite, which I finished this week! Highly recommend if you enjoy this type of series.

One of my anniversary gifts this year was a new devotional, A Catholic Woman’s Book of Days by Amy Welborn. There is a single page for each day, which includes a Bible verse, a reflection, and a one sentence prayer. I love that it is short, but so impactful, making it my next favorite. Perfect way to start or wrap up my day!

Do you ever hear a song that’s clearly about a romantic relationship, but the lyrics point you back to Christ or what the Lord has done in your life?

I was on the way to an appointment this morning when the song above came up on my playlist. These are the lyrics that got to me —

“No one’s ever loved me the way you do
Giving me a new perspective
Seeing my reflection
From a better point of view
And it’s all because of you
Yeah, it’s all because of you”

Loving the Lord and being loved by Him has changed my life in ways I can only begin to describe. Years of a distorted self-image and insecurities fell away when I realized I was a beloved daughter of God, that the God who made the universe really cares about and wants to be in relationship with me.

This pop song is on my favorites list this week because it reminded me of that. It’s funny because moments before it clicked about how these words applied to my faith, I was criticizing the song in my head.

‘A young woman shouldn’t get her self-worth from a relationship!”

I stand corrected. There is one relationship we can use to understand our value. We are all made in His image to love and be loved by Him, which is the only measure that really matters.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, friends! I hope you have a lovely weekend and a great Mother’s Day celebrating the women you love. If Mother’s Day is hard for you this year for whatever reason, I prayed for you today. If you’re struggling with infertility, check out my post below and know you’re not alone. <3
